Today I finished testing what I am calling a "pre-alpha" to test Onyx's core components (kernel, runit, mkinitrfs, etc). I am very pleased to inform you all there are only a handful of very minor defects to iron out; it should not be long before I have an actual alpha 'release' available for public testing. The best part is Onyx boots in under 12 seconds every time, with an average load time of 10 seconds. Onyx was tested on the following platforms:
- Dell PowerEdge R900 (Intel, Quad-Core Xeons)
- Dell PowerEdge 6300 (Intel, Pentium3 Xeons)
- HP ProLiant ml570 (Intel, Pentium4 Xeons)
- HP Pavilion dv2000 (AMD, Turion64 x2)
- Compaq Presario sr2000 (Intel, PentiumD)
- Several home-built desktops (various AMD and Intel)
- innotek VirtualBox (emulated on AMD Turion64 x2)
